Sports Portraits

If sports were just about showing up and looking pretty anyone can do that.  You practice hard.  You play hard.  The trouble is snapshots from the stands are just not going to cut it. You want to show your ESSENCE. You need awesome photos.

Athletics are about motion and dedication and passion.  I make photographs that capture that ESSENCE. Ive never seen anyone get excited about standing on the sidelines just because they are wearing the uniform.  It’s about being in the game and giving it your all.

I have always, well for lack of a better word, been bored with sports portraits I’ve seen in the past.  Yes, pictures of you holding a racquet or your helmet will get the job done for capturing the uniform.  But what I’m after is capturing the person inside of the uniform.  What are you about?  Show me the dedication in your eyes as you give it your all on the court.

Here’s a good example of what I do.  I came to the Denison Homecoming game in 2010 and again in 2011 with a giant Sports Illustrated sytle lens in order to take senior photos for Matt and Carl. As you can see from the Homecoming Album I shot lots more photos than just of Matt and Carl.  Many of my seniors want sport portraits and in the field of competition is the place to be make some truly awesome shots.
